All New Game Changes, New NEW Mega Structure

As advertised during the campaign, Star Tycoon was essentially finished and ready to go. But, we've had the opportunity to work with many more people after the campaign finished who had great suggestions for how we could tighten up the gameplay and increase player engagement.

We're happy to finally announce that we've been able to make some incredible changes in a very small amount of time that vastly improves the the overall quality of the game.

---

TLDR: Star Tycoon itself hasn't changed, we've just rearranged the order in which players take actions.

---

Here's a quick summary of the changes:

  • Buying and exchange actions are now spread out between players, shortening time between turns.

  • Auctions, while awesome, are no longer needed as it's easier to get the cards you want and plan your next purchase

  • Scores are now more likely to be closer together

  • Partnership cards have now shifted from a 'one-off strategy' to being viable in every game

  •  1st Player rotates so no more potential for 1st player advantage

We've also overhauled the graphic design of the rulebook, which you can check out here.

These changes are now LIVE on TTS if you want to test it out.

During the week we managed to get a play-through with the awesome folks over at Dad's Gaming Addiction. It's a bit long since we probably talked too much, but it should give you a good idea of how the game plays now:

Because we can't help ourselves, don't be surprised if we come back with more improvements in the future 😎

It's also worth mentioning that these changes haven't affected the fulfillment timeline.

We're sure you might have questions about some of these changes, so feel free to ask them in the comments below.

Promo Pack Changes

Remember how we moved the 1st Player Mini stretch goal from the base game into the promo pack? No? Maybe?

Well, we're moving it back to the base again 😅

Since the 1st Player now rotates, it's a necessity that the larger token goes back into the base game.

It makes no difference to all backers since you all got the promo pack for free, it really just affects those who purchase the pack after the campaign (and the price has already been adjusted for late backers).

Also, after lots more testing with these new players, it's become obvious that the core game could use one more megastructure.

So the Ministry of Commerce megastructure is being moved from the Promo Pack into the base game to make way for...

New NEW Mega Structure!

Never fear, a new megastructure is being added to the Promo Pack with brand-new artwork. It's not quite finished yet, but hopefully, we can show it off in the next update.

That was a massive update, great work if you got all the way to the end!

We're still on track to start production by the end of June. We'll be in touch in a few weeks with another update to keep you in the loop.
